Combine peanut butter, brown sugar, shortening, milk and vanilla in large bowl.
Beat at medium speed until well blended.
Add egg and beat until just blended.
In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda and salt.
Add to peanut butter mixture at low speed (a little at a time).
Mix until just blended.
Form dough into 1 inch balls.
To make reindeer shaped cookies, pinch the bottom of the ball slightly to form a point, then gently flatten with your hand.
Space cookies about 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 7-8 minutes until set or just beginning to brown.
Remove from oven and immediately (and gently) press 2 mini pretzels into the tops of the cookies for the reindeer's antlers.
Press 2 brown mini M&Ms in for the eyes and one red M&M for the nose.
Allow to cool 2 minutes on the baking sheet and then transfer to a wire rack or paper towel to cool completely.

Use silver cookie sheets instead of dark non-stick cookie sheets to keep bottoms of cookies from getting too dark.
I used a tablespoon as my measure for the balls, which is larger than 1 inch. The 1 inch balls were too small to fit the pretzels for the antlers. Baking time was adjusted to approximately 14 minutes.
Used Flipz Mini Chocolate Covered Pretzels -- found in candies aisle
Used 3 "tubes" of mini M&Ms to get enough brown ones
Used 1 42oz bag of regular M&Ms to get enough red ones. May be able to get by with one 18.4 oz bag if only making 24 (original recipe indicated that 40 cookies could be made out of this recipe).
Easier to put all antlers on first, then all the noses and then all the eyes rather than do each face individually and completely.
