Mix together shortening, egg, buttermilk, brown sugar and vanilla.
Mix flour, salt, soda. Add cut rhubarb to flour. Mix with first mixture, spread in 9x13 pan or 2 8x8 (greased and floured) pan.
Sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon before baking.
Bake 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
