1st Layer:
Set 1 pkg red jello in a long shallow dish
2nd Layer:
Set 1 pkg lemon jello in a bowl until slightly firm, then add 1 can of crushed pineapple (optional) and 1 pkg cream cheese. Whip all those ingredients together, then fold in half a cup of cool whip. When the first layer is firm, spoon on the second layer and let it set before adding the third layer.
3rd Layer:
Set 1 pkg lime jello until slightly firm. Add to top of first and second layers.
Refrigerate. Cut into squares to serve.
Sarah thought this would be a good dessert at Christmas time because of the red and green layers!
The Broddles are a wonderful couple that we have known for several years. Warren celebrated his 90th Birthday with us, and Phyllis later told us that the cake we got for him was the only cake he had that day! That was in 2008. In May of 2009 they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary. Joel and Mashella have many fond memories of the Broddles.
Phyllis invited us to their assisted living home in September of 2008 to have dinner with them. They were supposed to invite family, but their 4 children lived far away, and none of them were able to come, so she said we were the closest thing to their family that they had nearby. We loved it. Afterward, we went to Phyllis' room and Warren taught Joel and Sarah how to play Pitch, a card game their family likes to play when they get together. While we were there, Phyllis served us this salad and we liked it so much we asked her for the recipe. We are not sure if Grandma's Salad is the other common name for it, or whether that's the nickname her grandchildren gave it.
