These is the dough that mom uses for Christmas cookies, and also as the base for the angel cookies
Sift the flour and salt into a small - medium bowl. Mix the butter and sugar in a larger bowl. Beat the egg in with the butter and sugar and vanilla. Then add the flour little by little, mixing it in until everything is mixed together. Then,
1. Either chill the dough for at least 2-3 hours before rolling out and cutting into shapes for Christmas cookies, or
2. Drop the dough onto a baking sheet without chilling to make plain cookies
3. Use as the bottom layer for mom's angel cookies as described in that recipe
Either way bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 F
