Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar melts to golden brown and coats almonds (about 5 min.) Turn onto greased foil. Cool, then break up into small pieces. Just before serving salad, pour dressing over and top with topping. (you can prepare a few batches of almonds and keep in a safe place .. but it somehow disappears!)
