In a large skilled, cook sugar, 1/2 cup water and corn syrup over medium heat until mixture is honey colored. Remove from heat, and stir in butter until melted. Add cream and salt; stirring until smooth. Reserve 1 cup caramel.
In a large bowl, stir together remaining caramel, pumpkin, and next 5 ingredients until smooth. Pour pumpkin mixture into prepared Basic pie crust.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes or until center is set. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
In a large bowl stir together reserved caramel and nuts. Gently spoon on top of pie near edges; serve immediately. Refrigerate for up to 3 days.
