Cook sausage in skillet until brown. Drain and set aside.
Mix hash browns and butter and line the bottom and sides of a greased 9x13 inch pan.
In a bowl, mix sausage, cheese, onion, pepper, cottage cheese and eggs. Pour over hash browns.
Bake 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
This works well to make the night before and refrigerate until morning, although it may require a few extra minutes to cook.
