Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, adding oil if sausage is very lean. Remove sausage to slow cook, reserving drippings.
Saute onions, garlic, carrots, and celery in drippings until tender. Place vegetables in slow cooker.
Add chicken broth, seasonings, and beans. Stir well. Cover and cook on Low 3 hours.
Squeeze excess liquid from thawed spinach. Add to slow cooker for last 20-30 minutes of cooking time.
