Hearty ham and bean soup! Perfect on a chilly day!
Place beans in large sauce pan or dutch oven and cover with 10 cups of water. Bring to a boil and then remove from heat OR soak beans in water overnight). Let sit for 1 hour. In the meantime, combine all ingredients in a 6-qt. ovenproof Dutch oven or roasting pan. Cover and bake at 350°. Add the beans after one hour of cooking. Cook for an additional 4-1/2 to 5 hours or until beans are tender. Yield: 14-18 servings (4-1/2 quarts).
