My mother's own variation on the classic, designed to appease my English father and my family as well.
Brown meat, drain off fat. Brown chopped onion with meat. Add dill, parsley, garlic, salt and pepper.
In a separate pan, melt butter, add flour, stir and brown slightly. Slowly, pour in the consomme, stirring to mix the butter/flour mix. Add Gravy Master.
Put meat in 1 1/2 quart casserole. Pour gravy over meat mix.
Put seasoned mashed potatoes on top of meat/gravy, and sprinkle grated cheddar cheese over top.
Bake at 400(F) degrees for 20-25 minutes.
We leave out the vegetables since my mom prefers them to be separate, but you can add if you wish.
