Mom's Recipe (Joyce Simpson)
Preheat oven 275-300 degrees
Beat together butter, sugar, vanilla until creamed. Add flour to mixture until blended and dough holds together.
Roll out enough dough ungreased baking sheet to 1/4 to 3/8-inch thick and cover sheet. Flour cutters and cut shapes leaving 1 inch between shapes and lift off excess dough. Repeat rolling and cutting until dough is used.
Bake 15-30 minutes depending how thick dough is or until dough is pale gold and center is set when lightly touched.
Decorate with frosting or add food coloring to dough for colored cookies.
