Heat oven to 350.
Combine softened butter and sugars in a large bowl, stirring with a spoon until well blended. Add the vanilla and egg, stirring thoroughly. Add the flour, soda and salt, stirring thoroughly. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Spread mixture into a well seasoned 9 or 10 inch cast iron skillet.
Bake for 16-20 minutes, or until golden in color and set in the center.
Let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm from the skillet.
Make sure the butter is softened, room temperature.
