In a small bowl mix ground pepper, accent and cumin. Spread spice mixture evenly over both sides of round steak. Place cast iron pan over high heat for 10 minutes. When skillet is "rocket hot", sear both sides of seasoned steak for 3-5 minutes. Remove steak from skillet and let cool. Add water to the skillet and scrape to delgaze. Turn off heat.
Peel and cut carrots into cubes. Add carrots, green beans, barley, (celery), sliced mushrooms, (potatoes), water from deglazed skillet, beef bouillon, thyme, kitchen bouquet, dried onion and garlic to slow cooker. Cut cooled steak into cubes and place in slow cooker. Cook on Low for 10-12 hours; or on High for 8-9 hours. Season with salt and pepper.
The low setting on your slow cooker allowes the flavors to develop for a better tasting stew. Don't be afraid to double the recipe (if your slow cooker is big enough), as your will want to freeze half for a quick dinner on the fly later.
