Sift together the flour, spices and baking soda.
Beat butter or margarine together with sugar. Beat in egg and molasses.
Gradually add flour mixture and stir to blend.
Roll into balls and then into white sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 375° for 9 minutes. Do not overbake as the cookies will harden as they cool.
