Brown Italian sausage in bottom of extra large sauce pot (if adding meatballs form separate recipe). Remove.
Saute onions and garlic in oil from sausage until golden brown.
Add paste and puree. Stir a blend.
Add water and seasonings.
Simmer two hours.
If too thick, add water.
Add meatballs during the last hour of cooking for a total cooking time of three hours.
