Brown Italian sausage in a dutch oven, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Pour off the excess fat.
Stir in diced onions and bell peppers, chili powder, cumin, and crushed red pepper flakes; cook until the vegetables are just softened.
Stir in cannellini beans, fire-roasted diced tomatoes with their juice, chicken broth, and canned pumpkin.
Simmer for at least 20 minutes.
Serve with sour cream, green onions, and shredded cheese.
