Suggest a better descriptionPreheat oven to 350F.
1) Bring to boil: raisins, sugar, water, butter/margarine*, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt and nuts (if using.) Boil for 3 minutes. Let cool slightly.
2) Stir/sift in: flour and soda.
3) Pour into a greased 9" x 13" pan (you can use the same size pan if doubling recipe, or use a larger one), bake at 350oF, 20 minutes. (Bake longer if doubling recipe.)
4) Stir together conf. sugar, milk, vanilla. Frost/drizzle over WARM cookies. Better presentation if you cut them, then drizzle them, as I recall.
*This is such an old recipe, the butter is probably salted.
