1. Divide split peas, half to be cooked from the beginning, the other half to be added half way through cooking for added texture.
2. In a slow cooker, add all ingredients (except extra split peas). Cover and cook on High for 4-5 hours or Low for 7 hours making sure to add the extra split peas halfway through cooking time.
