Cut the butter into dry ingredients. Add milk & vanilla. Mix until JUST moistened.
Drop by teaspoon into the hot fruit mixture (prepared ahead of time, now heating on stove)
Boil uncovered for 5 minutes. Cover and steam gently for 30-35 minutes or until dumplings are no longer moist on top
