Put butter in a microwave-safe mug and melt the butter in the microwave on full power for about 20 seconds. Add the sugar, vanilla and salt to the mug and mix thoroughly with a spoon until smooth. Add the egg yolk and whisk until smooth. Add the flour and stir until it is thoroughly mixed. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired. Microwave the cookie for 45 seconds, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Eat right away from the cup. Even better with a glass of milk.
