Pronounced "Cla-Foo-Tee" this easy and quick custard dish is like a just-set pie with a silky smooth texture and loaded with fresh, juicy plum slices. It's the dessert of summer you never knew you needed.
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the butter to an 8-inch cast iron skillet and place in the oven while it preheats, or for 8 minutes
2. Add the milk, eggs, 1/3 cup sugar, brown sugar, orange zest, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and salt to a blend and mix on high for 2 minutes, or until frothy
3. Add the flour and mix on high for 30 seconds.
4. Remove the skillet from the oven and pour in the batter. Top with the plums and almonds and sprinkle with 2 tbsp of sugar. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until done – the sides will be risen and golden brown and the center will have a gentle wobble.
5. Cool for 5-10 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, serve, and enjoy
Clafoutis is similar to a baked custard. A perfect bake will see the clafoutis set but soft and creamy in the middle.
