Aunt Mary's fantastic recipe.
Cream the butter, shortening and water. Beat in the brown sugar, egg and vanilla.
Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, and salt in a bowl and then slowly blend in with the butter mixture. Then fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
Wrap the dough in parchment or plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours.
Preheat oven to 375°F
Pinch off walnut sized pieces of dough and roll into balls, and then coat with powdered sugar. Place dough balls on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes.
Let cool on cooling rack, and then serve.
