Adapted from Cooks Illustrated
1. Cook garlic and ginger in heated oil in small pan over medium heat until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add spices and cook about 1 minute longer. Put 1/2 mixture in large bowl and 1/2 in small bowl.
2. Add juice from 1 lime and salt to larger bowl. With sharp knife, make shallow cuts on one side of chicken pieces, and toss in large bowl. Let stand for 30 minutes. Add juice from 1 lime and yogurt to small bowl and mix.
3. Set oven rack 6" below top; heat to 325 degrees. Add yogurt mixture to chicken and toss until evenly coated. Place cut-side down on rack on foil-lined baking sheet and cook in oven until legs and thighs register 130 degrees, about 20 minutes.
4. Remove chicken from oven and flip cut-side up. Turn broiler on high and allow to heat for 10 minutes. Return chicken to oven and cook until lightly charred and legs and thighs register 175 degrees. Remove from oven and allow to rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
