Gertie and Morey were neighbors of my grandparents ( Mama and Papa). This is a nice side salad for a barbeque or other meal. Works well for pot lucks.
In a saucepan, heat sugar, oil, wine vinegar and salt together until well dissolved and near boiling. Remove from heat and cool liquid.
Combine beans/onion, pour over liquid and refrigerate for 24 hours.
Note: this has a strong onion flavor with a whole onion, reduce
onion if desired to a half or even a quarter. Cutting the onions
in slivers makes the onion flavor less strong than chopping the
onion as well.
