Heat butter and olive oil.
Add onion slices, basil, salt, pepper.
Cook over low heat until onion is wilted.
Add tomatoes and tomato paste - stir to blend.
simmer 10 minutes
Put flour in bowl and stir in 5 tablespoons chicken broth.
Add to tomato mixture.
Add remaining chicken broth
Simmer 30 minutes more, stirring frequently.
Blend and strain if desired.
Return to heat, add sugar.
Mixture can be frozen at this point.
Before serving, add cream and simmer 5 minutes. Garnish with lemon slices and/or croutons
