These waffles have a more dense texture and hot fruit toppings, adding whipped cream, make them a sweet treat after a meal or at any time.
Preheat waffle iron.
Mix butter and sugar, then add lemon, salt, eggs and mix well again. Gradually add milk to mix.
Combine flour and baking powder and then add to batter mixing until batter is smooth.
Spray waffle iron with baking spray or brush on oil. Bake waffles as per your iron's instructions.
While baking the wafles whip the cream in a mixing bowl and slowly add the sugar until stiff peaks
form. Keep the whipped cream refrigerated until ready to serve. Also heat your favourite topping(s)
while baking the waffles. I prefer using a pot on the stove.
Serve topped with hot or warmed fruit pie fillings and whipped cream for a sweet treat after a meal or at tea or coffee time.
Makes about 8 or 9 each 4" squares.
These waffles are a little dense or heavy in texture making them ideal to top with warm/hot fruitty toppings and whipped cream.
