Suggest a better description1. Make the caramelized onions. In a 12-in nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally until soft, about 10 minutes. Add the sugar and a pinch of salt and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is a deep golden brown, about 12 more minutes. If the onion starts to burn, add a TBSP of water to the pan. The onion will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
2. Heat the broiler, line a broiler pan with foil and spray foil with nonstick cooking spray.
3. In a small nonstick skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and ginger and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the apple and cook, stirring frequently, until soft, about 3 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a small bowl and let cool slightly.
4. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, goat cheese, scallions, thyme, 1/2 tsp each salt and pepper, and the apple mixture. Mix well with your hands and form into 4 patties. Put the patties on the prepared pan. Broil 4 inches from heat until cooked through 5 to 6 mins per side.
5. To serve, top with onions.
