I think this one's my mother's fault - clipped from a newspaper sometime in (checks prices) 1980-ish. (As a side note, if you know where to get lobster for $3.99 a pound, let me know).
Source: A newspaper my Mother clipped. Can't identify it.
Mix well: Olives, celery, sweet red pepper, garlic, capers, vinegar, parsley, olive oil, italian seasoning and red pepper flakes in medium bowl.
Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
Cur bread in half lengthwise. Scoop out about half of soft center from both top and bottom. Brush bread with some of olive salad marinade. Place turkey slices on bottom of bread.
Spoon olive salad over turkey. Place cheese on top and press bread firmly over filling. Cut into wedges to serve.
Muffaletta can be made up to 4 hours ahead, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerated. Bread will soak up dressing, giving a new but wonderful texture to the sandwich
I left the typos in place.
Also, 'new but wonderful texture' sounds like 'it's going to be soggy as heck, but we'll try to spin it'.
Your mileage may vary.
