I've been making this for years. Don't know what to do now that there are no more twinkies ): Still experimenting It's SO simple & kids choose it over any "made from scratch" cake! There can be so many variations of this!
Cut twinkies in half lengthwise. Make one layer of halves, filling side up, in 9x13 pan. Make pudding according to package directions. Spread vanilla pudding over twinkies. Sprinkle half of the crushed candy bars over the pudding. Layer another layer of halved twinkies, filling side down, over the crushed candy bars. Spread chocolate pudding over twinkies. Spread Cool Whip over pudding. Sprinkle remaining crushed candy bars on top. Cool in refrigerator.
There are so many variations to this. Use your preference and imagination. I've used a layer of vanilla zingers with a layer of chocolate zingers. I've used butterscotch pudding. I've used peanut butter pudding with Reese's. I've used pistachio pudding with chopped nuts. Banana split ingredients... possibilities are endless and they are ALL good!!!
It was requested by my step son for his BDay this January. I knew it was impossible to get twinkies any longer... however, I thought I could use Zingers. DUMB DUMB... I didn't realize they are made by the same company. So.. I used Little Debbie snack cakes. The kids still loved it! (Teenagers) I was not as happy, however. I thought it to be a little dry. Still looking for other possibilities to replace the much missed twinkies & zingers. But for a quick delectable dessert.. the Little Debbie's work just fine.
