Spaghetti Meat Sauce
SUBMITTED BY: HJ-PIX
This is a recipe that is supposed to be like the meat sauce served at Vince's Spaghetti in Southern California. It was published in the Press Enterprise several years ago in Riverside, CA and has become one of our family favorites. I give this information because I did not come up with the recipe and want to give credit where it's due. Published in a newspaper... Is that copyrighted? You decide.
I'm going to try this served over wheat pasta and use leaner beef now that I'm being more conscious of what I'm eating. This will be an occasional treat for the family.
140 Minutes to Prepare
Cook the garlic and onion in the olive oil for a few minutes. Add the tomato paste and equal amount of water; simmer for a few minutes. Add the tomatoes in puree that has been broken up. Add salt, pepper, basil and sugar and simmer a few minutes.
Brown meat with the oregano; drain and add to tomato sauce. Continue simmering for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
