Cook pie crust according to instructions on package and let cool.
In the meantime, combine pudding mix, milk, sugar, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt and butter in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil.
Remove from heat and cool 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add pumpkin and stir thoroughly.
Pour into a pie shell and cool until firm.
Once the pie is firm, combine the brown sugar and flour into a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in walnuts and mix.
Put mixture into a skillet over medium heat and cook until brown sugar is melted and walnuts are browned.
Pour mixture over pie and cut into pieces before crust hardens.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
