Mix dry ingredients - flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices in a medium bowl.
Cream butter with brown sugar well. Stir in molasses. Beat egg and mix into creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla.
Add dry ingredients (1/3 at a time) mixing well until entirely mixed.
Slowly add boiling water, stirring well after each addition. Pour into greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 325(F) degrees for 50 minutes.
Lemon Sauce
Mix cornstarch, sugar, and salt in sauce pan. Slowly add boiling water and stir until fully mixed.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened. Cook over very low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until less 'starchy' ??
Add lemon rind, juice, and butter and stir in. Serve hot over cake.
