Add bacon and cook until crisp, about 4 mins
Set aside in paper towel lined bowl
Add 1 tbsp evoo along with leeks, carrots and 1 tsp salt. Cook until soft, about 6-8 minutes. Stir in garlic, celery seed, marjoram and tomato paste, and cook 2 mins.
Add 1/2 cup water, and scrap brown bits. Add beans, bay leaf, 1 tsp salt and remaining 4.5 cups water. Bring to boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer 30 mins.
Turn off heat and remove bay leaf. Purée 1/3 of soup.
Top with bacon
