Suggest a better descriptionIn medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium high heat. Add the carrots, celery, chives, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 3-5 minutes, until the vegetables are crisp-tender.
Add in the broth, rice and 1/2 cup water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for about 40 minutes, until the rice has softened.
Mix in the chickpeas and kale and cook until the kale is just wilted, about 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.
