Healthy Yellow Lentil Soup
1) Pressure Cook Water, Yellow Split Peas[Moong Dhall], ginger,garlic, green chilli, tomato,turmeric powder,salt for 20 minutes or 4 whistles.
2) In a Pan clarified butter or butter or oil. Fry 1 teaspoon cumin seeds until it gets light brown .
3) Add asafoetida[Indian spice]
4) Slow cook for 10 minutes.
5) Garnish with Chopped Cilantro
Asafoetida gives a distinct flavor and one can find it in a local Indian grocery story. The Hindi name for Asafoetida is Hing.You can also find Yellow Split Peas in Indian Grocery store with the name Split Moong Dhall. The above preparation can be cooked in slow cooker too with 3 mugs of water. The same preparation can be cooked with Pigean Peas[Indian Name:Toor Daal] as well. One can buy pressure cooker in American Stores like Macy's,Sears etc and does not cost much.
