Apple Brown Betty with Brown Sugar Whipped Cream

Ingredients

2 tb Butter Soft

1/3 ts Allspice

1/4 ts Ground ginger

1/4 c Light brown sugar

1/4 c Granulated sugar

2 ts Vanilla extract

1 c heavy cream Chilled

2 tb Fresh Lemon Juice

2 tb Light brown sugar

1 1/4 c bread crumbs Soft fresh, wheat

1 ts Cinnamon

2 lb Apples peeled, cored, halved and sliced 1/2-inch thick

3 tb unsalted butter Cold, cut


Directions

How to Prepare Apple Brown Betty: Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter a shallow 6- x 9-inch rectangular baking dish with 2 tablespoons of softened butter. In a small bowl, combine the crumbs, brown and white sugar and spices. Toss the apples with the lemon juice. Scatter 2 tablespoons of the crumb mixture into the bottom of the baking dish. Top with 1/2 the fruit and scatter 1/4 cup of the crumbs over. Top with the remaining fruit and crumbs and dot with the 3 tablespoons of chilled butter. Bake until the crumbs are browned and fruit is bubbly and tender, about 35 minutes.
