Danish pastry Apple bars

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups flour

1 cup shortening

1 egg yolk

1 cup cornflakes

8-10 tart apples Peeled cord and sliced (8 cups)

3/4-1 cup sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 egg white

1 cup powdered sugar

3-4 teaspoons milk


Directions

Sift together flour and 1 teaspoon salt. Cut in shortening. In measuring cup beat egg yolk, and enough milk to measure 2/3 cup. Mix well. Stir into flour mixture. On floured surface roll half of the dough into 17" x 12" rectangle. Fit into bottom and the sides of a 15.5" x 10.5" x 1" baking pan. Sprinkle with cornflakes, top with Apple slices. Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle over apples. Roll remaining dough two 15.5" x 10.5" rectangle. Place over apples. Seal edges, cut slices in top. Beat egg white till frothy, brush on top. Bake at 375°F for 50 minutes. While warm, Drizzle with mixture of powdered sugar and 3 to 4 teaspoons of milk. Cool. Cut into bars.
