Easy Cornish Pasties

The Cornish pasty is known and loved throughout Great Britain and Ireland and fierce arguments abound as to the origins of Cornish Pasties with neighboring Devon also laying claim to the origins of the pasty. Wherever they come from, this definately makes for a quick to make & filling meal!

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds boneless loin pork chops cut in 1/4-inch cubes

1 package refrigerated all-ready pie crusts (15 oz.)

2 cups diced potatoes cut in 1/4-inch pieces

2 cups diced rutabaga cut in 1/4-inch pieces

3/4 cup chopped onions

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Directions

Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine pork, potatoes, rutabaga, onions,salt and pepper; mix well. Unfold pie crusts; press out as directed on package. Place half of pork mixture on each pie crust. Brush milk around edges of pie crusts. Fold over. Press edges together with fork tines; slash top crusts. Place turnovers on large ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 40-45 minutes or until dark golden brown. Cut into wedges.

These are a staple in my home as of last night. Savory and meaty with a wonderful vegetable blend in a flaky warm crust...I'm quite fond of these; well done!

I was not sure about this one. I was worried that the kids would hate the rutabagas, and it seemed like those few ingredients would not be that good. I was pleasantly surprised. The whole family liked them a lot! I did add onion powder and garlic powder to the meat, other than that I pretty much stuck to the recipe. I added foil halfway through so the crust would not overcook. Next time I think I will use ground pork and ground beef mixed with potatoes carrots and celery. The consistency was good. It was moist and the crust was delicious.
