Laundry Detergent For Kids

ONLY 1 tablespoon of this soap for a large load of laundry! REALLY! This stuff is a concentrated version so it packs a lot of cleaning power. One quart will clean about 64 loads of laundry. That means that one batch of laundry soap, 5 quarts, will last you about 320 loads!

Ingredients

2 Cups Borax

2 Cups Super Washing Soda (Not baking soda)

2 bars Fels Naptha Laundry Soap

6 Cups Hot Water more as/if needed

5 each Quart Canning Jars or equal in size

1 Long Handled Tablespoon

Directions

Step 1: Place 6 Cups of water on stove to heat. (You do not want it to boil, just get very, very hot) Step 2: Grate your two bars of Fels-Naptha Soap. The finer the better. It will melt faster that way. (Food Processor works great). Step 2: Add Fels-Naptha soap to hot water. Stir continuously for 15 minutes until all soap has dissolved. It should look frothy and bubbly. Do not let it boil...it will make a mess. Step 3: Once soap has melted remove from heat and add in 2 cups of Borax and 2 cups of Super Washing Soda. Stir until all dissolved, 3-5 minutes. Step 4: Pour mixture equally into 4 quart sized canning jars. Option #1 Step 5: Add water to fill up to shoulders of jar and mix together and let it set for 8 hours. Option #2 Step 5: Let jars set for the full 8 hours and then add hot water and fill to shoulders of jar. Step 6: Use a spoon to mix up the hot water and goopy mixture (may or may not be hardened depending upon option #1 or #2 in step 5. Step 7: Spoon contents from one jar into blender or mixer. Be frugal, use water and or spatula to get it all out! Step 8: Mix thoroughly, beginning on low speed increasing speed gradually to high until it becomes thick and creamy. Spoon back into jar. Since mixture has puffed up a bunch you should have some left over. Your result will be something that looks like really thick, pale yellow whipped cream. You may need to scrape the sides down with a spatula a few times to get it all the way blended/mixed. It's like creaming the butter, sugar and eggs when you make cookies. Pour/spoon the now blended soap back into the quart jar(s). Your jar(s) will be all the way full now and you may even have a little more for another jar. Pop a lid onto the jar(s) and your soap will keep indefinitely. It gets a little firmer in the jar when it sits, but it stays spoonable. If you have a stain just rub in a little concentrate before washing.
