I love this recipe. I just throw it in the crockpot over night and let it cook. I added in 1 1/2 lbs. of ham because you can never have too much ham in your soup . Couldn't get a Ham Hock( Grocery store is hit or miss) and I don't like adding in the ham I the end, it adds to the flavor of the soup when you add it in the beginning.

Great recipe, remind's me of my Mum's except she did not add potatoe just more carrots and celery and fresh peas at the end along with chopped up mint leave's. Mum allway's used smoked ham hocks for better flavour and she used to cut the ham hocks to the bone with a sharp knife into sections so the meat would fall of the bone.(no mess).I can't believe someone would rate it as 1 star without even making it. 5 Star recipe for sure.

Easy (dare I say) peasy! And tastes awesome, especially on a cold winter evening. I much prefer using a ham hock (I used 2 small smoked ones for this recipe, about a pound in total) instead of adding ham at the end. Adding the ham did not impart that much flavor and at the same time, the ham loses its own flavor quite quickly so it's not that good to eat.

I didn't like this recipe at all. It was too vague and certainly wouldn't have came out right if I relied on this recipe alone. I ended up looking up other split pea recipes which made my soup come out much better. I wouldn't advise anyone to use this. Find a different one. Luckily, my soup turned out amazing no thanks to this recipe.
