Overnight Stuffed French Toast

Ingredients

1 large loaf Italian Bread sliced 1/3 in. thick

1 (8 ounce) strawberry cream cheese

2 cups Half-and-half cream

1/2 cup Brown sugar firmly packed

1 teaspoon almond extract

1/4 cup butter melted

1/4 cup Brown sugar


Directions

Cut bread diagonally into 30 slices, each 1/4 inch thick. Spread about 1 tablespoon cream cheese on half of the slices; top with remaining bread slices. Place in 9x13 inch baking dish that has been lightly coated with no-stick cooking spray. In large bowl with hand mixer, beat eggs, half-and-half and 1/2 cup brown sugar, and the 1 teaspoon almond extract. Pour mixture evenly over bread; turn slices as needed to coat completely. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Topping: Just before baking, combine butter, the 1/4 cup brown sugar, and the 1/2 teaspoon almond extract in 1 cup glass measure. Microwave (high) until butter is melted; about 30 seconds; stir until smooth. Drizzle over bread slices. Bake in 375F oven until golden brown; about 30 minutes.
