Cream sugar into well beaten eggs; add milk, evaporated milk, vanilla and a shaved apple. Pour mixture into a baking dish. Cut the loaf of bread into 2 inch slices and butter well on both sides. Press flat side down into the mixture in the baking dish and thoroughly soak the pieces. Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven until golden brown. Serves 6 to 8. From <A Taste of Louisiana>.
