Spaghetti with Sauce Italiano

Ingredients

1 lbs bulk italian sausage or ground beef

1 cup onion chopped

2 cloves garlic minced

2 oz mushroonm stems and pieces drained

1 oz tomato puree

1 bay leaf

1-2 tbsp fresh oregano (or italian seasoning below)

2 tsp dried italian seasoning crushed (or fresh oregano above)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp ground black pepper

1 cup green sweet pepper chopped

12-16 oz dried spaghetti cooked and drained

parmesan cheese (optional) grated or finely shredded


Directions

• In a large skillet cook sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat. • Meanwhile, in a 3.5 or 4 quart slow cooker stir together tomatoes, mushrooms, tomato paste, bay leaf, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir in meat mixture. • Cover and cook on low heat setting for 8 to 10 hours or on high heat setting for 4-5 hours. • Remove and discard bay leaf. Stir in sweet pepper. • Serve meat mixture over hot cooked spaghetti. If desired, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
