Alma's Brownies

This recipe was given to me by Alma Martin from Three Rock Cove, Newfoundland. It is more like chocolate cake than brownies, but you won't care because it's too delicious!

Ingredients

2 cups Flour

2 cups Sugar

1 teaspoon Baking powder

1/2 cup Margarine

1/2 cup Oil

2 Eggs beaten

1/2 cup Buttermilk

1 cup Coffee strong

1 teaspoon Vanilla

1/4 cup Cocoa

1 dash Salt

1/2 cup Walnuts optional

3 1/2 cups Icing sugar

2 tablespoons Cocoa

1/2 cup Margarine

1/4 cup Milk

1 teaspoon Vanilla

1/2 cup Walnuts optional


Directions

In a saucepan on stove top heat together coffee, cocoa, margarine and oil. Remove from heat and add buttermilk, vanilla and eggs. In a seperate bowl, mix together flour, sugar and baking powder. Add to wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Grease a 9x13 pan. Pour brownie mixture into pan. Bake in a 400F oven for 20 minutes. Icing: Put all icing ingredients in a bowl and mix with electric mixer until smooth. Cool brownies 10 minutes then ice while still warm.
