Preheat oven to 400. Heat butter in a skillet over medium low heat . Add onions and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized. , about 30-40 minutes. Transfer dip to bread bowl and place on baking sheet lined w parchment. Scatter bread pieces around the loaf.
