KENTUCKY BLACKBERRY JAM CAKE

Ingredients

1 cup shortening

2 cup sugar

4 Eggs

1 teaspoon soda

1 cup sour milk

3 cups flour

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon ground allspice

2 cups blackberry jam

Caramel Frosting:

1/2 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1/3 cup milk

1 pound package powdered sugar


Directions

Mix together shortening and sugar. Then add eggs, one at a time. Mix together soda and sour milk. Mix spices and flour together. Now mix all together, then add blackberry jam. Also may add chopped nuts, if you want them. Bake about 45 minutes at 350 degrees in three 9-inch round pans. Frost with: Caramel Frosting: Heat butter and brown sugar in saucepan, boil 1 minute. Then add milk and powdered sugar. Stir or beat until smooth. Frost cake. This cake is better if set a few days before serving.
