Place crisco, sugar, 2 c water, cinnamon, cloves and raisins in medium saucepan and heat to a good boil. Cool to room temperature (don't let crisco re-solidify).
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Dissolve baking soda in warm water.
Combine raisin mixture with flour and baking soda water and mix til all in moistened. Add a little more warm water if needed.
Separate batter into two 9 x 13 aluminum pans sprayed with Pam and bake until center is firm. Begin checking at 50 minutes.
