Basic Waffles

Recipes »  Breakfast  »  Waffles

A real good basic waffle. Make them ahead of time and freeze, then just pop them in the toaster. There is a lot of butter already in the recipe so no need to add more.

"We separated the egg whites and beat them til stiff then folded them in to the rest of the mixture, added half a tablespoon of sugar. Also vanilla Essense. Good result. " - Coetess

Servings
Original recipe makes 4
1 3/4 cupsAll purpose flour
1 tablespoonBaking Powder
1 tablespoonSugar
1/2 teaspoonSalt
3 Eggs; well beaten
1/2 stickButter; unsalted, melted (add more for a crispier waffle)
1 1/2 cupsmilk

Basic Waffles Preparation

Pre-heat the waffle iron until it's good and hot. Whisk together dry ingredients, whisk together det ingredients then make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the wet ingredients. Whisk gently. The batter should have a pebbled look. At this point you can add 1/2 cup of anything you would like, even cheese. Add about 1/2 cup of batter to the hot iron, close the lid and do not open it till the steam has almost stopped. Serve imediatley or keep warm in a 200 degree oven.

Notes

I have 2 to 3 waffle irons going at once so everyone gets a nice hot waffle I also make sure to serve it with warm syrup.

Good basic starter recipe! We add vanilla and almond extract, and sometimes even a splash of Orange juice! Very easy recipe to alter for your preference.

For a 'basic' recipe it is very basic, it cooked up fine but was very bland, surely needed to add vanilla or cinnamon or both.

The waffles were okay, but not the greatest. They were very soft. I added 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp cinnamon to give them a better flavor. I don't think I'll be using this recipe again.

I added some fresh lemon juice to take away the eggy flavor. Everyone loved it, including my picky eaters.

Not good at all. Tasted like bread and eggs. Perhaps a recipe with less eggs would be better. I only made two waffles and threw out the rest of the batter! Don't waste your ingredients!
