One of our favorites; they freeze great and are open to numerous variations.
Heat oven to 375F. Stir flour with baking soda and salt; set aside. In large mixer bowl, cream butter with sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Gradually blend dry mixture into creamed mixture. Stir in nuts and chocolate. Drop by tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375F for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 6 dozen.
For chocolate chocolate chip: melt 5 to 6 ounces of unsweetened baking chocolate and let cool. Beat into cookie dough mixture prior to stirring in the chocolate chips. Bake for exactly 10 minutes.
* recipe makes big batch - can halve if desired. (They freeze well, so we always make the large batch size). They're also good if you sift some unsweetened cocoa powder in with the flour (about 1/4 cup worth) for a specially chocolatey treat. If you can't get ahold of Ghiradelli chocolate chips, you can substitute your favorite brand of milk chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips.
