Great PA Dutch recipe handed down through the generations.
Make sure the molasses is baking molasses. I always use Brer Rabbit Green Label Molasses. Mix together flour and brown sugar. Mix in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Set aside. Add baking soda to hot water. Stir and then add to molasses. Pour into unbaked pie crust. Cover with the flour, sugar and shortening crumbs which were set aside.
Bake 15 minutes at 425? and 15 minutes at 350?.
